KDA

Since 1965

KDA was founded in 1965 by Piet Van Espen as the first student association at the State University Centre Antwerp (RUCA).

At RUCA, candidates for various courses were taught, including chemistry.

In 1973, the first edition of the RUCA Codex, a supplement to the green codex of the KVHV, was published.

In 1988, Stefan De Gendt also founded a Circle of Alchemists at the University of Antwerp (UIA), which was established in 1971. For several years, the club had two presidiums.

1991

In 1991, education became a Flemish responsibility and RUCA officially changed to University Centre Antwerp , and the two presidia merged into one unitary circle.

1993

In 1993, several KDA members founded a second club alongside KDA: DNA. DNA was the student association of the biochemistry department, aimed at increasing attention to activities for biochemists.

Since biochemistry didn't have a bachelor's program in Antwerp, DNA had a hard time finding members of the presidium. In June 1995, DNA was dissolved.

1999

Just before the centenary, the RUCA Codex came to an end. Due to copyright issues, KDA was forced to abandon a number of songs that also appeared in the KVHV Codex. The answer was the Red Codex, as many students know it today.

The song repertoire of the Red Codex has been significantly expanded over the years.

2020

In the 2019-2020 academic year, 46 years after the first publication of the RUCA Codex, KDA will celebrate its 55th anniversary. To celebrate this 11th anniversary, a fifth edition of the Red Codex will be published.

The Red Codex is now also used by several clubs in Ghent and Leuven.
